Along the Siak River

Bridge

An old cement bridge is crowded with traffic: pedestrians, minibuses, motorbikes, bicycle taxis, trucks and automobiles. The bridge curves over the Siak River high enough to allow oil tankers to pass underneath. The local government wants to replace and widen the bridge and clear out the shantytown lining the river to make a public park. This will displace many of the poor people crowding the shoreline. They will be forced to return to their villages where there is little work or money.

The Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8 (NLT)

  • Pray that the government would act responsibly and justly towards the poor as the bridge is rebuilt.
  • Pray that as a bridge allows us to cross from one side to the other, may the Riau Malay see that in Isa al Masih (Jesus Christ), God has provided us a bridge from death to life.
