Along the Siak River

Juice

Juice and food stalls have been set up on the front porches of many homes here. A little distance from the road, a young woman sells starfruit, mango, orange, avocado and tomato juice. Grounds of Sumatran coffee line the bottom of two glasses sitting on the edge of the porch. Here in Indonesia, it is polite to leave a little bit in your cup so as not to appear greedy. A tiny camping oven contains ramen noodles. Although people are cramped into small living conditions, they attempt to make it as cheerful as possible with flowering plants, pink and green signs proclaiming, "Welcome" and "Thank you," and yellow walls.

If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. Heal the sick, and tell them, "The Kingdom of God is near you now."
Luke 10:8-9 (NLT)

  • Pray that the Riau Malay would welcome followers of Jesus who come bringing the Good News.
  • Pray that as people congregate at these stalls, they would hear about the Kingdom of God.
