Family

Islam is passed down from parents to their children so Islamic ways are instilled at a young age. Families in Indonesia face many challenges. Islam permits a man to have up to four wives at a time. The Indonesian government requires the current wife or wives to give consent to subsequent marriages and the husband must treat all wives equally. Many times men work away from home in other cities of Indonesia or Malaysia. It is not uncommon for men to take mistresses, or temporary wives in the areas in which they are working.

The PKK is a government department for the welfare of families. They attempt to promote happy and prosperous families. This agency teaches mothers how to bring in income from home by teaching them how to weave mats and make other crafts for export. They try to promote families abilities to fulfill spiritual and material needs so that they are devoted to God and have balanced relationships.

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
Deut. 6:6-9 (NIV)

  • Pray that the parents will pass down devotion to one God through Jesus Christ the Son.
  • Pray for marriages and the family structure that they will soon mirror Christ and His love for the church.
  • Pray that the PKK would promote biblical family ideals that would one day lead people to the true God, through Jesus.
