Lancang Kuning
Like many cities in the Riau Province the Lancang Kuning (Yellow Sailboat) is in the square of Dumai City. The Lancang Kuning is a famous Riau story, and though the versions differ slightly and many youth do not know the story, the yellow sailboat emblem is prominent throughout the region.
The Riau Malay culture has traditionally been an oral society, but many children watch TV in the evenings instead of listening to their parents and elders telling stories and teaching tradition.
In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?” tell him ... (your story) ... The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.

- Pray that the Riau Malay will know where they have come from and where the Lord wants to take them.
- Pray that they will once again learn and pass down the traditional stories as well as true stories from the Bible about Christ’s love and redemption.
- Pray that traditional stories will become popular again and replace television and its immorality, violence, and evil.
