"Why bother now?" — Environment and the Future

By late afternoon the river is also a source of fun, especially for kids. They enjoy swimming, diving, and throwing themselves off the river banks into the water. The joy on their faces is contagious! But what these kids don’t know is that their future is precarious as the local environment around them is not being well cared for.

As in many developing countries, environmental awareness and stewardship is not a high priority in Telek Kuantan region. Practices such as deforestation due to economic reasons, careless burning of non-biodegradable material and reckless throwing of garbage into the river all have lasting negative impacts in the environment. Without active intervention, the future generation will reap the effects of these practices.

And he said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
Matt. 18:3 (NIV)

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Matt. 19:14

  • Pray for a renewed perspective of ecological stewardship not just for environmental preservation but having in mind that “the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it” (Ps 24:1), and thus we have a responsibility to take care of it.
  • Pray that the children will grow in the fear of the Lord, and that despite their parents' unbelief that they would not be hindered from becoming part of the Kingdom.
  • Pray that a godly heritage would begin from today's children.
