Dumai

Oil Pipeline

Pipelines extend from just North of Pekanbaru and surrounding cities and villages all the way north into Dumai. The pipelines transport crude oil from the surrounding areas to Dumai where it is refined. Large silver, red and blue oil tanks line the ports. The bright orange flames from the refineries send billows of dark smoke polluting the air. Black metal pipelines run parallel to the roads and oil pumps are seen rhythmically moving throughout the area. The people often use the above-ground pipeline to dry their washed clothes in the hot sun. The oil pumping is in its last stage as the majority of wells are now using steam injection to recover the last remaining oil. Dumai city relies on this oil for its income and when it dwindles and expires, many will no longer have a source of earnings.

You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your ear has not been open … For my own name’s sake I delay my wrath; for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you, so as not to cut you off. See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.
Isa. 48:8-11 (NIV)

  • As the oil is refined from something that is not useful in its raw state to something of great worth, ask that the Lord will work in this city refining the people, softening and changing their hearts. Ask that their hearts would be refined by the Father so that they may have a pure and concentrated love for His Son.
  • As the oil runs out pray that the Lord will give the people new meaning, purpose and livelihood.
